PTAC Hosts Intensive DCAA Training for Navajo Nation

NCAIED Facilitating High-Level Government Contract Training, Starts With Navajo Nation

The National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development’s Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) hosted a specialized Defense accounting training for the Navajo Nation in Window Rock, Arizona. The session focused on accounting compliance to ensure potential contractors meet the guidelines and requirements for the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA). The session is entitled “DCAA Compliance Beyond the Basics Boot Camp.”

“The opportunities created through the specialized defense accounting training are tremendous,” said National Center President and CEO Gary Davis. “The National Center’s PTAC was proud to provide this advance training to the Navajo Nation, and look forward to working with other tribes in the future to bring business opportunities to Indian Country.”

The session, which was completed in December, is a follow-up from an introductory course hosted previously, which was the first of its kind to occur on-site at the Navajo Nation. The session, held in Mesa, Arizona, included an overview of DCAA requirements, and focused on accounting systems, payroll and labor distribution systems, monthly requirements, internal controls and policies, and financial capability.

“The National Center’s PTAC is excited to provide these trainings to the Navajo Nation,” said George Williams, Program Manager for the National Center’s PTAC. “We look forward to collaborating with other tribal entities to ensure they are put in a strong position to win government contracts.”

The National Center’s Procurement Technical Assistance Center provides professional business consulting services and technical assistance to Native American-owned businesses regarding marketing and selling to the Federal, state, local and tribal governments and large prime contractors. Assistance extends to all Native American businesses (American Indian, Alaska Native Corporations and Native Hawaiians) and includes tribes and individual businesses both on and off reservations.

In addition, procurement is a big focus at the National Center’s Reservation Economic Summits (RES), including at the upcoming National RES in Las Vegas, which will occur from March 9-12. For more information about National RES, click here.
