Omega Container, a small manufacturing company that fabricates shipping and storage containers for military munitions, has been working with the Northwest Louisiana PTAC for nearly 20 years. When – about 10 years ago – the owner suffered a severe stroke requiring his wife and his longtime office manager to take over running the business, PTAC staff stepped in to help them with tasks that the owner had previously taken care of, such as maintaining all of their government registrations. The PTAC had helped them obtain Hubzone certification in 2004, but the company lost it in 2010 because they were so busy fulfilling a large order of tubes for the U.S. Department of Defense that they hadn’t had the time to get all their employees addresses submitted on time for re-certification. PTAC Program Manager Kelly Ford contacted the SBA and several other organizations on Omega Container’s behalf and was ultimately successful in convincing the SBA to allow the company to re-certify without the waiting period. This helped not only Omega Container, but also their government customers that wanted credit for using a Hubzone small business.
The PTAC staff provided – and continues to provide – the guidance they need for all the fundamentals of contracting, including how to invoice on WAWF, SAM registration and migration, DSBS updates, providing historical information for pricing, and understanding many military and DoD-adopted specs. The PTAC performs an annual site visit to make sure they are up-to-date with all their government registrations. In 2010, Omega Container received the NW Louisiana PTAC’s Excellence in Contracting Award, an honor bestowed annually to clients awarded government contracts due to their professionalism, persistent marketing, and maintaining a positive relationship with buyers and government agencies. In 2014, Omega was awarded nearly $2 million in government contracts, including, $1,158,500 with Rock Island Arsenal.
