Military Packaging – 3 Webinar Series

APTAC has made arrangements with DCMA Packaging Specialist Doug Jokinen to present a three-part webinar designed for the manufacturing specialist interested in bidding on DoD solicitations and shipping products to the military. The presentations will provide basic definitions and explanations of the various types of military marking requirements and the marking formats that are applicable at the item, unit pack and shipment level, allowing PTAC staff and Small Businesses to attend valuable training from the convenience of your office at no cost to you.

Session #1:  Standard Practice for Military Packaging – MIL-STD-2073-1
January 26, 2016 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time/9 a.m. Central Time

MIL-STD-2073-1 outlines the standard processes for the development and documentation of military packaging. It forms the basis of virtually all military packaging instructions included in DoD solicitations and contract awards. Understanding the organization of the document and where information can be found is essential in meeting military packaging requirements.

Session #2:  MIL-STD-129, Military Marking for Shipment and Storage      
February 2, 2016 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time/9 a.m. Central Time 

This session will focus on MIL-STD-129, revision R which describes package marking requirements, including human readable identification marking, bar code symbols, Military Shipment Labels (MSL) and RFID tag application. Specific identification marking data elements will be defined, various bar code symbologies and their applications will be described, special marking and shipment documentation requirements will also be reviewed in this training module.

Session #3:  Military Contract Packaging Data and Formats
February 9, 2016 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time/ 9 a.m. Central Time

This session will examine military packaging and marking requirements as referenced in solicitations and contracts issued by various DoD Buying Activities. The packaging data formats covered will include coded packaging data in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1 and Special Packaging Instructions (SPIs). Contract clauses applicable to shipment marking, palletization requirements and Heat Treated Wood Packaging materials will also be reviewed.

Presenter:  Doug Jokinen is a Packaging Specialist assigned to the DCMA Logistics and Safety Center. Prior to assuming his duties in the Packaging Branch, Doug was a Packaging Field Support Representative of the DCMA West District organization.  Doug is duty stationed at the DCMA Twin Cities office located in the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building at Fort Snelling, Minnesota.
